Leaders Council Spotlight | Col. Steve Carey

Posted on March 22, 2018

You may recognize him as the face of CertaPro Painters, but owning his own local business is retired Air Force Colonel Steve Carey’s second career. He is a combat-seasoned fighter pilot and brings his 30 years of experience in the Air Force to his company. “From my early days at the Air Force Academy to combat missions over Iraq, I realized that you cannot simply talk about core values… you have to live them. Integrity, hard work, and loyalty really do matter. I learned at a very young age that we can do so much more if we learn to rely on each other, ask questions and seek excellence at
every turn,” said Carey.

Carey says his business is a team. They strive to grow smartly each year by building a culture of service. “We partner with our homeowners and with our commercial clients on every project to make sure we deliver beyond their expectations. That is not easy, and it requires a commitment from everyone on my team,” said Carey. They’re focused on building lifelong partnerships with homeowners and businesses by providing a high-quality service for customers. “My team is proud of what they do and how hard they work to deliver unmatched craftsmanship and dependability,” said Carey.

Carey has taken on many leadership roles with the Eastern Shore Chamber, the Mobile Chamber, Red Cross, Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame, The Mobile Veteran’s Day Commission and the Daphne Industrial Board. He’s made an incredible impact through his role as Chairman of the Chamber’s Foundation. Part of that driving force is his passion for building a strong workforce. “Workforce Development is the foundation for small business success and is the engine that drives a robust economic growth,” said Carey. “You build a business on people and rely on the strength of their values and character. I believe that wherever you find a strong workforce, you will find workers who view their community as an extension of their family.” He strongly believes it’s crucial to demonstrate a commitment to our local workforce through education, infrastructure, skills training and the arts..
